ROANOKE, VA — A 10 On Your Side investigation uncovered concerns about the adoption rate at the Regional Center for Animal Control and Protection. In 2010, state records show the center put down nearly 5,000 animals while adopting out only 38. In fiscal year 2010, finance reports from Roanoke show the city contributed $610,000 to Animal Care Services Inc., an entity set up for tax purposes to run the shelter. The leasing manager of a Fairfax County apartment complex was convicted Tuesday of capital murder in the beating and sexual assault of a tenant, Genevieve Orange, a Botetourt County native and Virginia Tech graduate.
