He negotiated the release of hostages with Saddam Hussein in 1996. He negotiated the release of a hostage journalist with Omar Al-Bashir in Sudan in 2006. He's also been on diplomatic missions to North Korea, Nigeria, Bangladesh and whole host of other countries.
His Presidential ambitions might have fallen flat, but Bill Richardson could still make for an interesting running mate for Barack Obama.
He's pro-gun and pro-business, but also expanded civil rights in New Mexico to include sexual orientation and gender identity.
