Violet Sabrewing (Wild Birds)

Violet Sabrewing, specie campylopterus hemileucurus, is a very big hummingbird built-in to southern Mexico and Decisive America as far south as Costa Rica and western Panama. It is a species of the understory and edges of alp forests, exceptionally acent streams. The female Violet Sabrewing lays its two white eggs in a relatively large cup nest on a little horizontal bough, as a rule over a stream.

The Violet Sabrewing is 15 cm long; the male weighs 11.5 g and the female 9.5 g. The full grown manlike is bottomless violet, with a dark green back and wing coverts. The shafts of the male’s exterior capital flight plumage are thickened and flattened to give the distinctive feature which gives the sabrewings their English and scientific names. The three exterior pairs of plumage of the if not black tail are white; this gives rise to the controlled category designation, hemileucurus translating as “half-white tail”, but several added sabrewings assign the conclusion pattern, not least the White-tailed Sabrewing of Venezuela and Tobago.

The feed of this species is nectar, taken mainly from undergrowth flowers with Heliconias and bananas as favourites. The males are less destructive and territorial at flowers than their extent would advise.

The female is dark green beyond and bloodless beneath apart from a violet throat; the tail pattern is the same during the time that the male’s. Callow Violet Sabrewings keep buff edges to the feathers and lack any violet, although juvenile males may be dark-complexioned green-blue beneath.
