Bjork is an avant-guard singer from Reykjavik Iceland. With punk rock roots and a career of varied collaborations that ranged from jazz to rock, Bjork showed up on US radar in the late 80s as part of the Sugarcubes after the band appeared on SNL.

A bit of a Maverick, she came out with the early 90s album entitled Debut on her equally renegade UK record label, One Little Indian. That album has put the tiny company on the big map.

In 2000, Bjork appeared as Selma in director Lars von Trier's film Dancer in the Dark for which she wrote many of the soundtrack songs.

Bjork tours the US from mid-April 2007 and her recent tracks can usually be heard at her official myspace site, www.myspace.com/bjork. If ou have news or want news on Bjork, if you want to report a Bjork sighting or want to discuss her work with other Bjork fans, join this portal.

The best films of Lars von Trier, a sadistic Danish jester, face up to their flaws and nastiness and hyper-self-consciousness unblinkingly. Their unashamedness becomes their virtue; and von Trier can be called one of the most interesting directors of his time because even if he's an asshole (and the evidence suggests this is so) he doesn't try to hide the fact. In an artist, dishonesty is a greater sin than villainy, and von Trier takes his adventures and experiments to their logical extreme, rarely trying to hide what he's doing. Sometimes this results in a work of gripping sincerity: Breaking the Waves has been ... Read Full Story

This year's Austin City Limits Festival lineup may dissapoint some longtime atendees, due to the high percentage of repeat performers, but for folks like me who have never been, it's a perfect year to go. And it's cheaper than any of the other big name festivals of a similar ilk and has a killer lineup. I'd just like to say that I am proud of myself for not including Yo La Tengo in the title of this post. YLT are performing at ACL Festival, but apparently not everyone else thinks of them as the most important band in the world like I do, evidenced ... Read Full Story

This is the video for Dull Flame of Desire ; I really love that song. The video, starring Bjork and Antony Hegarty, is a bit too quaint for my taste. But then again, Bjork is anything but pedestrian. The woman has her own unique style and flair. The single is scheduled to drop on October 22nd. My favorite video by Björk is definitely Wanderlust. That mofo is really fantastically beautiful. Check it out after Dull Flame of Desire Wanderlust Read Full Story

I wasn’t that crazy about Bjork’s last studio album, Volta , so I was less than enthuiastic about her current release, Voltaic , a live album recorded in one take at a London studio shortly before her 2007 Glastonbury appearance. It may have been that either I didn’t really get Volta when I listened to it, or else I just really prefer the five live interpretations included among the eleven tracks here, which comprise the live set she had...

Bjork performing live always counts as an event—for the high grade of spectacle she favors, of course, but even more so for the way her voice wavers when less than perfectly defined. No studio work of hers lacks for vocal drama, but live recordings do far more to set off Bjork’s voice as something fleshy and physical—a fleeting call from a singular singer who’s also as human as anyone else. Gathered from live shows after 2007’s Volta, Voltaic...
