Bjork is an avant-guard singer from Reykjavik Iceland. With punk rock roots and a career of varied collaborations that ranged from jazz to rock, Bjork showed up on US radar in the late 80s as part of the Sugarcubes after the band appeared on SNL.
A bit of a Maverick, she came out with the early 90s album entitled Debut on her equally renegade UK record label, One Little Indian. That album has put the tiny company on the big map.
In 2000, Bjork appeared as Selma in director Lars von Trier's film Dancer in the Dark for which she wrote many of the soundtrack songs.
Bjork tours the US from mid-April 2007 and her recent tracks can usually be heard at her official myspace site, www.myspace.com/bjork. If ou have news or want news on Bjork, if you want to report a Bjork sighting or want to discuss her work with other Bjork fans, join this portal.

An Irish atheist group has published a series of quotations on religion in an attempt to challenge a blasphemy law that went into effect on New Year's Day. The 25 "blasphemous" quotations include the words of Jesus, Mohammed, Mark Twain, Salman Rushdie and Bjork. Atheist Ireland published the list on its Web site Friday. It says it aims to challenge the law, which makes blasphemy a crime punishable by a 25,000-($35,800) fine. "Despite these...

I'm posting this as we travel, and my connection isn't the best. But I spoke with Victor Kelley today. Kelley is the attorney for Capt. Carl Bjork, a decorated soldier serving in the U.S. Army. Bjork just went through an Article 32 after accusations were made by Iraqi detainees. Kelley told me the accusers are former Iraqi police (3) and one former Iraqi intel officer. My phone connection was barely audible--it's raining frogs and fish right...
Capt. Carl Bjork awaits word on the outcome of testimony given as part of an Article 32 hearing in Iraq, undertaken because Iraqi insurgents accused the captain of murder. Before we talk about those Iraqis, we need to talk about the captain. People have emailed and phoned me to talk about Bjork. The overwhelming impression Ive formedthe captain is a man among men. One man who wishes to remain anonymous knows Bjork well, from running...
This is one for fans of Calvin and Hobbes or Studio Ghibli, and if you found Where the Wild Things Are's sweet melancholy too much to resist, then there's a good sprinkling of that feeling to be found here too.
The Moomins were the creation of Finnish novelist and comic strip author Tove Jansson and, according to legend, she drew the first one to scare her brother. That cute thing? Scary? Maybe it was one of the Moominland monsters she drew...
Bjork has written a tune called "The Comet Song" for a Finnish children's movie dubbed Moomins And The Comet Chase.
The film will be released in August or September 2010, and features these animated creatures called Moomins that look like what would happen if you crossed a dog with a pig, then with a hippopotamus and a horse. (There's a trailer for 2008's Moomin And Midsummer Madness below if you care to take a look.)

MONDAY: Singer-songwriter Lenka has said her music is a mixture of the Beatles, Burt Bacharach and Bjork. Like the first two she shares a good ear for bouncy melodies, but Lenka and Bjork are alike only in that they both evoke pixies. But the Australian singer has a voice as cute as her face (that is, very), and her sweet 2008 debut, "Lenka," spawned the ultra-catchy pop song "The Show," which Old Navy used in a major campaign.
After the...
