This Weeks Challengers: Somdev Devvarman Wins

Men's Challengers

Porsche Open 2008
Poznan, Poland

Men's Singles Final
Nicolas Devilder def. Bjorn Phau 7-5, 6-0

Anybody's who has been following tennis closely knows that Nicolas Devilder has been on a tear through the challenger circuit, and even finding some success on the main circuit since after the French Open. His ranking on May 5 was 155 in the world he has now risen to a career high of 65. If he is able to keep up his recent form he will be ranked much higher. Great Effort from Phau to reach the finals he has been having a poor year, but this week should give him a boost.
Devilder gets 80 points.
Phau gets 56 points.

San Marino Cepu-Open
San Marino, San Marino

Men's Singles Final
Filippo Volandri def. Potito Starace

Volandri has been struggling this year so this is a great effort for him to win this big challenger title. Starace was the top seed in tournament so he should feel satisfied he reached the finals, but he is probably a little upset because this is certainly a tournament that he could have won.
Volandri gets 80 points.
Starace gets 56 points.

Fifth Third Bank Tennis Championships
Lexington, Kentucky

Men's Singles Finals
Somdev Devvarman def. Robert Kendrick 6-3, 6-3

Somdev Devvarman the two time defending champion of the NCAA singles tournament is having an incredible start to his career on the ATP circuit. Prior to this tournament Devvarman played on the futures tour where he went 15-0. Now Devvarman is playing the challenger circuit where he wins his first title as a qualifier. His ATP record is now 20-0 this year that isn't even counting his qualifying wins. Everybody knows the status that Sania Mirza holds in India. If Somdev Devvarman continues this sort of play on the ATP circuit he will be headed for superstardom especially in India. Devvarman is playing next week in a challenger as well in Candada. Devvarman currently has 11,800 hits for his name on Google expect that number to change as well as he proves himself to be a great tennis player.
Devvarman gets 57 points.
Kendrick gets 38 points.

Penza, Russia

Benedickt Dorsch def. Sergiy Stakhovsky 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(6)

Dorsch a 27 year old German has a stellar week and plays much greater than his ranking which is not even in the top 200. Stakhovsky is more of an up and comer at age 22. He is currently 128 in the world only 5 spots off his career high of 123. I will be following his results in the future. He was very close to winning this title.
Dorsch gets 55 points.

Women's Challengers

75K
Pentange, Luxembourg

Women's Singles Final
Mathilde Johansson [4] def. Renata Voracova [5] 2-6, 7-5, 7-5

Johansson is 23 and ranked 117. Voracova is 24 and ranked 120, both of these players have been on TV recently Johansson playing Serena at Roland Garros, and Voracova playing Davenport at Wimbledon, both of them can play so I believe they have great chance to move up in the ranks. This is a great start to play so well in a big challenger.

50K
Lexington, Kentucky

Women's Singles Final
Melanie Oudin def. Carly Gullickson 6-4, 6-2

Good week for the American's in Lexington, and an especially good week for Oudin. She is only 16 years old. This result in a 50K should give her plenty of confidence and belief that she can play on the WTA Tour and be successful. Gullickson is 21 and has been struggling this year but this result should boost her confidence as well.

25K
Kharkiv, Ukraine

A battle of two lowly ranked players Buryachok is 482 in the world and Antoniychuk is 339. Antoniychuk is only 17 years old, so watch out for her in the near future. Buryachok is 25 and this is likely her career best week.
