DUBE RESIDENT- Master of Theater
Dube village as it is known today harboured a middle class residents of Soweto and these residents built their own houses on plots. The first hostel to accommodate migrant workers evicted from the inner city in 1955 was built at Dube. The following year houses were built in the newly proclaimed townships of Meadowlands and Diepkloof. Dube is famous for producing one of South Africa's finest play writers and Master of the African Stage Drama plays i.e. Mr. Gibson Kente. He was brave and had the guts to tackle, crime, and politics not to mention poverty of the country's sprawling townships under white rule

Now! That is how Dube to me became a special place in my heart and Bra Gib is an icon and was also a voice that represented those who could not speak for themselves. To take you a step further - in terms of soccer and its legends; Dube produced a very profound
and competitive soccer club of its time, which is today known as Swallows. I will delve more deeper on that subject when I tackle the most interesting Soweto subject of all "Soccer Teams" of Soweto. As I take you through the entire journey of Soweto on this blog there is an issues of contention i would like to raise. I wonder what the "Powers" that be are thinking! i.e "The World of Arts & Culture", I would have thought by now Bra Gibs' house in Dube should have been converted into a museum and tourists be ferried to his place of "rest" as a symbol of honour and a token of appreciation for what he has accomplished for the Black Community of South Africa during the struggle against Apartheid. America always honours its heroes and heroines why don't we? To the Minister of Arts and Culture please review my plea.
May Bra Gib's Soul Rest In Peace! we will miss you man -God Bless...

I can definitely forgive you for under-estimating Dube township to be an under-dog's township of Soweto, as few people know it to be. First and foremost while it had beautiful houses and most probably a majority of Soweto's tycoons and very successful business entrepreneurs emerged from Dube besides the legends like Bra Gib. Bra Gibson Kente was the founder of the black township theatre. When I first saw his play "Sikalo" at the Mofolo Eyethu cinema long time ago, I knew then, that South Africa was going through a tough period. Our lives were gradually changing and history was in the making. His story-telling theatrical presentations were so powerful and a marvel that every member of the audience "while captivated" would relate to the message, because it affected our lives and it was all about us (black -South Africans). He raised the bar of our consciousness about our plight as oppressed people and that we needed to wake up and do something about the situation somehow, to "revolt" or we were history and doomed. Now! That is how Dube to me became a special place in my heart and Bra Gib is an icon and was also a voice that represented those who could not speak for themselves. To take you a step further - in terms of soccer and its legends; Dube produced a very profound
