New York Times best-selling author Dr Peter D’Adamo, naturopath and creator of the Blood Type Diet claims in his book Eat Right For Your Blood Type. It’s been a hit with Hollywood stars like super skinny Liz Hurley, Demi Moore, Hugh Grant, Ted Danson, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox-Arquette and Martine McCutcheon. Blood transfusions are the process of transferring a blood component (usually plasma or red blood cells) from one person (the donor) into the circulatory system of another person (the recipient) through an intravenous (IV) line.   Whole blood is made up of blood components (plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets), and whole-blood transfusions are rarely given.   Blood transfusion therapy is often used to treat massive blood loss or blood disease.   One major concern during blood transfusions is blood type compatibility .   The donor and recipient blood types should be checked and cross-matched to ensure that the recipient’s immune ... Blood transfusions can be life-saving when executed responsibly. On the other hand, contaminated blood transfusions can be fatal, as one might get infected with diseases like AIDS, Hepatitis (B and C) or hemophilia. If you have received infected blood, you are eligible for filing a claim for personal injury. The most common cause of death from infected blood is a condition called Acute Hemolytic Transfusion Reaction (HTRs or AHTRs). This is why strict standards are maintained for the monitoring and administering of blood. ... Read Full Story

Table 1 in the article in question clearly shows a relationship between blood transfusion and mortality as follows: No transfusion 11% [mortality], 1-2 units 14%, 3-6 units 19%, >6 units 23%. The authors’ conclusion that “Moderate Exposure to Allogeneic Blood Products Is Not Associated ... Read Full Story

Are blood transfusions safe? There are a few flaws in the study below. What do you think? Here are my observations. An interesting study was released from Australia. It looks at the potential long-term adverse effects resulting from blood transfusion. The study claims that moderate amounts of transfused blood in patients in patients undergoing cardiac surgery did not lead to long term problems or increased death rates. 1,841 patients who underwent low-risk coronary artery bypass surgery, Dr. Weightman said,” Our results indicate that a moderate blood transfusion does not promote the spread of such cells.” Did he mean that there was no spread of ...
