‘American Idol’ Star Bo Bice, Voice

Bo Bice was the runner-up on American Idol the year that Carrie Underwood took the coveted title. And even though Underwood emerged victorious, that hasn’t kept Bice and his amazing talent quiet. In fact, his latest project is lending his voice to a PBS documentary about the Civil War.

According to a report from FOXNews, Bice joins William Lee Golden from The Oak Ridge Boys, as well as Golden’s wife, at work on the music for the documentary.

Bo Bice explains why he was so excited to be asked to sing for this particular project:

I’m into Civil War history, and I think that much like any of the other wars we’ve fought, we’re destined to repeat the past if we don’t pay attention to it. I’m a southerner by heart, but I’m an American first, so every time we have an opportunity to learn about our heritage, we should definitely take that and pass it on.

Bo Bice’s sense of patriotism doesn’t stop there either. He has traveled a number of times overseas to perform for the U.S. troops and even joined forces with Armed Forces Entertainment to ring in the year 2011 at Guantanamo Bay—the oldest overseas United States military base. In fact, Bice has been trying to convince American Idol producers to extend their summer tour to the troops overseas.

I think Idol would be really cool if they did some tours there; I’m not the only person who has probably gone over to Afghanistan from American Idol. When you see the soldiers’ faces—I get over there and I tell them “thank you,” and I tell them “you guys pick up a gun and all I do is pick up a guitar.” I think if American Idol ever took that opportunity to see the service men and women, it would definitely be something that endears the A.I. family, it might just change the perspectives of folks at Idol who may never have seen the sacrifices and things I have seen there.

Bo Bice became a quick favorite among viewers during his stint on American Idol. His long locks and surefire talent was hard even for country sweetheart Carrie Underwood to beat. How nice that he has spent so much of his time sharing his music with United States troops overseas. That kind of patriotism isn’t as prevalent as it used to be. Lots of Americans could take a lesson in patriotism from this young man.

For now, Bo Bice is firmly engrained in his love of Civil War history—singing his heart out in honor of a different time in the United States—one of days long since gone by.
