Libertarian Republican blog is pleased to be the very first news source to proclaim that Bob Barr, Libertarian Presidential candidate, along with his running mate Wayne Allyn Root, have achieved an important goal. As of Sunday, the Libertarian ticket for 2008 has officially busted 500,000 votes total.
With 99% of all precincts reporting, Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr appeared well on his way to breaking the ever important barrier of Half a Million votes. CNN reported this morning the near final vote total:
499,912However, the CNN total does not include results from Guam.
Various sources have reported Barr's total in the Pacific Island Territory to be 212 votes. Barr was the only candidate besides Obama and McCain to appear on the Guam ballot.
The CNN total added to the Guam numbers puts Barr's total at 500,204 votes.
There's even more outstanding. According to National Libertarian Party Political Director Sean Haugh, Barr qualified in Maine as an official write-in. No write-in numbers appear on the CNN site for Maine. As soon as the write-in numbers can be obtained from the ME SoS, that would increase Barr's total even more. It's also possible that Barr could have received some write-in votes in West Virginia where he did not appear on the ballot. Two other states where he lost ballot access - Connecticut and Oklahoma - do not permit write-ins. It is unknown whether Louisiana or DC, two other jurisdictions where Barr missed ballot access, allows write-ins.
This is the second highest LP Presidential vote total of all-time, the highest being Ed Clark in 1980 with 922,000 votes. The Party has run Presidential campaigns since 1972.
