Ron Paul and Gary Johnson should run together for the Libertarian Party nominations for president and vice president, respectively. That wouldn't guarantee their selection. However, Paul-Johnson would be the strongest ticket the LP could offer. It would be the best alternative available to the Republicrats.
The Libertarian Party has struggled with its
identity since its founding in 1971. Technically America’s third
largest political party, the LP’s political efforts have often made
it seem like America’s Third Largest Debate Club. Yet as Mike Riggs
and Garrett Quinn write, it appears the party has found a balance
this year with the nomination of former two-term New Mexico
Governor Gary Johnson for president and Judge Jim Gray of
California for...
Las Vegas—The final debate in the race for the Libertarian Party presidential
nomination between Gary Johnson and
Lee Wrights was,
mostly, a friendly affair that felt more like an infomercial for
libertarianism than a debate. Former LP presidential candidate
David Bergland
softly tossed questions to the candidates that seemed as if they
were designed to elicit responses that would convert those watching
on C-SPAN to libertarianism rather...
Gary Johnson is late. He’s pretty happy about the reason: too many interviews on the schedule today. That was never a problem when he was running for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination. Now that he’s the front-runner for the less-exclusive Libertarian Party nod, people want to talk to him.
Wayne Root, who ran as Bob Barr's VP candidiate with the
Libertarian Party in 2008, currently a member of the Libertarian National Committee that
runs the Party, exhibits a lack of dedication to the LP by saying
this on a
Bill Cunningham podcast, right in the first couple of
minutes:
I think the important thing now is to make sure Obama is not
elected, and that means in my mind, I would love for a libertarian
like Gary Johnson the two term...
Las Vegas - Gary Johnson sat down with Reason to talk
about his current bid for the Libertarian Party nomination as well
as his past flirtations with the party.
In 2000, while still governor of New Mexico, the Libertarian
Party courted Johnson as a potential presidential candidate. He
declined as he still had two year remaining on his term as
governor. Twelve years have passed since he last seriously flirted
with running for president.
What...
As Gary Johnson gears up to try to win the Libertarian Party's
nod in their Las Vegas national convention in early May, various
writers are wondering how thoroughly non-interventionist his
foreign policy ideas are (especially in the wake of two Ron Paul
campaigns that have raised the bar high for a libertarian-leaning
approach to military intervention).
It started with a Daily Caller interview
defining Johnson's foreign policy vision as...
Last Sunday, April 1, Bob
Zadek had me on his
San Francisco-based KKSF-AM radio show to discuss the Occupy
movement from a libertarian point of view.
I documented the early
days of Occupy Wall Street for Reason.tv in several videos, and Zadek and I
discussed the roots of the protest, the parallels to the Tea Party
movement, and what effect Occupy will have on the 2012 campaign
season.

The Libertarian Party held its convention over the weekend in Las Vegas and, as many had been expecting, overwhelmingly nominated former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson as their Presidential nominee: Aside from the muscular gentleman in the slinky party skirt and halter top, a delegate wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and a prominent speaker sporting [...]
The Libertarian Party national convention smoothly nominated candidates for President and Vice-President on Saturday, May 5. I would appeal to Sarah Palin, Gary Johnson, and the Libertarian Party to make Sarah Palin the candidate for President at the Libertarian Party convention next month. The Libertarian Party has never has a candidate that had a viable chance of winning. There is no reason to think that it will be different this year with Gary Johnson. Palin, however, has been vetted and would draw together a coalition of disenfranchised voters that would put her...

Is there a new factor to pencil in when analyzing the upcoming 2012 Presidential election? The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has this story about the Libertarian Party’s candidates in Texas in 2012. Even though the party has over 100 candidates for federal and state office, the story reveals that the party would have had more, except that redistricting uncertainty made it difficult to recruit candidates, especially for the state legislature.
Gary Johnson did a good job hyping the non-kookiness of
libertarian beliefs on wars in the Middle East, the drug wars, and
gay marriage, among others. Colbert asks him why Johnson couldn't

whiney, and says his "message is the same as Ron Paul's...what
happens to this message when he gets out of the race?," and talks
up both fiscal sense and social tolerance.
