At his first press conference as Canadiens owner, Geoff Molson expressed satisfaction with team president Pierre Boivin and general manager Bob Gainey. “Are we going in the right direction? Yes,” Molson said. “Bob Gainey has done an excellent job in rebuilding the team.” Read Full Story

The Teen Ranch adventure for the Habs had come and gone. It was Jacques' vision of team bonding that led them to this retreat north of Toronto.  It certainly wasn't one of their cushy over priced resorts to which  the Habs had grown accustomed.  Far from it, bunk beds, no television and no internet. This was time for the guys to really get to know each other.  Bonding was the "in" thing these days, all teams did it.  It was all about building trust and responsibility and getting to know far more about each other than you ever wanted to know. Then add to this mix a ... Read Full Story

From time to time, when there's  either too little or too much hockey or maybe when my medication has started to kick in, fantasies about the Habs GM and a big blue annoying but lovable Genie pop into my warped Habs loving mind. This is the fourth Bob and Genie fantasy.  Hopefully I can complete the story before they come to cart me away. It was early morning in Montreal, even the birds had not quite awakened and the cool September morning air was crisp and invigorating.  A lone man  could be seen running.  You could tell by his movement and appearance that this was a ... As Bob sat in his office, Genie was no where to be seen.  There was little comfort in that fact for him because he knew from experience that at any minute Genie could and probably would reappear.  So Bob was enjoying this quiet time for however long it lasted.  He checked his Blackberry for messages and was thinking " Welcome to my world in the great fishbowl of hockey, " when there was a knock on the door.  Before he could respond the door opened to reveal an anxious and some what agitated assistant coach, who asked, "Have you got a minute, Bob? I ... Read Full Story

For an instant everything went blank, as Genie and his Cammalleri presentation disappeared. There was the hope this was the end of the dream and that I would now wake up. But once again that was not to be. Still in the Bell Centre, a spot light now appeared on the ice as four shadowy figures appeared. Loud music began to play as Genie introduced the quartet on the ice.... Madames et monsieurs...direct from their last performances in New York, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and San Jose. MONTREAL - With all the new faces brought in and all the money spent in doing so, Bob Gainey and the Montreal Canadiens no longer had time to wait for a player like Guillaume Latendresse to develop. That was one of the reasons Gainey ship...

We have previously wondered what were Bob Gainey's biggest moves since he came into office with the Montreal Canadiens. Some have talked about Alexei Kovalev, some about Carey Price, but here is another one that might top some charts: Guillaume Latendresse is no longer a Canadiens. The hype surrounding Latendresse has always been reportedly associated with his birth certificate. Drafted 45th overall, his arrival with the team has been...

Yes, "the softy" has been moved to Minnesota for "the chicken." That's as far as my high school French, no doubt erroneously, will take me. Underachievers Benoit Pouliot and Guillaume Latendresse have been exchanged for each other. Bob Gainey suggested, "Often times a different environment, new teammates, and a new situation can be beneficial to a player." Latendresse was chosen in the second round, 45th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in...
