Former Yankees right fielder Bobby Abreu is still a free agent, and he most likely will not be coming back to the Bronx. Abreu served as the Yankee’s number three hitter last year putting up a .296 average, 20 home runs, 22 stolen bags, and a .371 batting average. He will be 35 when the season starts, but will he have a team?
Abreu, who was considered among the top ten in this year’s free agent class, was originally seeking a multiyear deal. However, the plethora of corner outfielders and the dreadful economy hurting many baseball teams, he may have to settle for a one year deal. Ken Rosenthal believes Abreu will be willing to take a one year deal now and suggests that the Mariners and Giants could be potential fits for Abreu. Buster Only added the Mets, Braves, Angels, and maybe Red Sox.
I baffled by how a talented player such as Abreu is still seeking a job. If I were a general manager, I would swoop him up. Now is the time to get an incredible bargain.
