The Lions agreed to terms with former first round linebacker Bobby Carpenter and signed Cody Wallace off of the Jets practice squad.
Carpenter was a first round round pick of Bill Parcells’ when he was with the Cowboys, but Carpenter never fit in in the 3-4 defense. He spent some time in Miami, which reunited him with Bill Parcells, but didn’t pan out there either. Carpenter may just be a body to take the place of Zack Follett while he recovers, but Carpenter may surprise us. Carpenter is a much better fit in the 4-3 than 3-4 and the Lions seem to have struck gold with Alphonso Smith, another “failed” high draft pick.
Cody Wallace seemingly doesn’t fit a need and Tom Kowalski of MLive.com believes that the Lions signed him to pick his brain and help the Lions prepare for the Jets in three weeks.
