Gov. Bobby Jindal is visiting schools around Louisiana to talk with teachers, principals and students about ways to improve the state's education system.

The governor started his visits Monday with a stop at Dularge Middle School in Houma, a high performing school in Louisiana's accountability system. Eighty-four percent of the students there are performing on grade level, compared to 67 percent statewide.

Jindal says elementary and secondary education will be his priority for the 2012 legislative session, but he hasn't outlined his proposals yet. He's described his goals as wanting an excellent teacher in every classroom, more choices for students in failing schools and more flexibility for spending in school districts.

Jindal's been meeting with lawmakers, education board members and others to get ideas for his education agenda.
