Lubbock, Texas was the city and Fair Park Coliseum was the venue on Friday as Shark Fights 21 took place.
The main event of the evening would find a former WWE champion grabbing the title; specifically, Bobby Lashley would claim the belt as he secured the submission win over Karl Knothe in the first round with a top-wrist lock. As a result, Lashley is Shark Fights’ heavyweight champion.
“It was exactly what we worked on, from transition to getting into it. Step by step we went over that same series, like, maybe hundreds of times,” said Lashley, in an interview with MMAjunkie.com following the fight.
In terms of what’s next for Lashley, he is of the hope that Shark Fights will sign him to another fight as soon as humanly possible.
With the victory, Lashley improves his MMA record to 7-1.
“I think I do want to stay with Shark because they take care of me really well,” said Lashley, who signed a three-fight deal with the Texas-based promotion earlier this year. “I’d like to do a couple fights to get everything together, and then make the decision a little later.”
