(Getty Images | Inset from Microsoft) In its attempt to get all the kids to stop using Firefox and switch back to Internet Explorer, Microsoft tapped none other than '80s comedian turned edgy director Bobcat Goldthwait to direct a series of ads. Of course, the trouble with choosing a guy known for gross-out comedy who wrote and directed a movie about bestiality is that maybe he's going to be a little too edgy for your target audience. Microsoft's target audience being much wider than the late-night "Adult Swim" fans these ads seem to be aimed at. But screw it, right? I mean people loved ... Read Full Story
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Yes, you want to have a great screenplay and a talented director, but no project ever gets made until a star's attached. You simply can't make a movie without somebody to play the lead and having a star is going to help if you're looking for financing or distribution. Case in point: "World's Greatest Dad," which opened Friday in New York to a modest $10,300 and comes to California on August 28. Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, it's a thoughtful but outrageous comedy starring Robin Williams as a troubled high school poetry teacher and single parent. After the ... Read Full Story

Bobcat Goldthwait already counts his latest movie starring buddy Robin Williams a success, no matter how well it does at theaters. That's because "World's Greatest Dad" star Williams landed a slot to promote the film on NBC's "The Tonight Show," where Goldthwait once burned his own bridges by deliberately setting a chair on fire during an appearance with Jay Leno. In an interview shortly before Williams' "Tonight Show" gig, Goldthwait marveled at the fact that the low-budget black comedy he wrote and directed would get airtime on one of Hollywood's premier publicity venues. "I truly, not in a bitter way, am not too concerned ... Read Full Story

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Robin Williams stars in a movie called "World's Greatest Dad," but as a real life father of three grown kids the Oscar winner said he had to overcome dark times and was still a work-in-progress. "I'm so proud of them in different ways, but have they always been cherubs? No, but that's been part of the process," Williams said in an interview. "And am I the 'world's greatest dad?' Not at all, I'm a work-in-progress, but I love them," said Williams, whose latest of 51 movies opens on Friday. A son from his first marriage, Zachary, 26, graduated from New ... Read Full Story

by Chris Herrington If you're anything like me, the name Robin Williams is enough to send you fleeing from a theater, inspiring visions of manic, self-involved attempts at comedy alternating with unbearable sentimentality. Append that dread name to a film titled World's Greatest Dad, and it would seem to be a recipe for disaster. But add to that mix this bit of information: written and directed by Bobcat...
