Microsoft Pulls Bobcat Goldthwait's Gross-Out Ad for Internet Explorer

In its attempt to get all the kids to stop using Firefox and switch back to Internet Explorer, Microsoft tapped none other than '80s comedian turned edgy director Bobcat Goldthwait to direct a series of ads.

Of course, the trouble with choosing a guy known for gross-out comedy who wrote and directed a movie about bestiality is that maybe he's going to be a little too edgy for your target audience. Microsoft's target audience being much wider than the late-night "Adult Swim" fans these ads seem to be aimed at.

But screw it, right? I mean people loved Bobcat in those Police Academy movies, and he got some rave reviews at Sundance this year. What's the worst that could happen?

Well let's watch the tape. (Or not. Seriously don't watch this video if you have a weak stomach. There's a reason why they pulled this commercial.)


The O.M.G.I.G.P. ad is one in a series of IE8 TV spots launched first on browserforthebetter.com, and it's the only one to be pulled. They all feature Dean Caiman as a '60s inspired ad man who explains why you need this new brower. The results are mixed, but it's all bizarre. Here are some of the others:
