(Getty Images)more pics »Bode Miller will not be taking his fourth medal at Vancouver, after failing to finish during the first run of the men's giant slalom. It was not an unexpected result -- Miller is unranked in the discipline -- but as of late Americans seem to almost be fated to win Apline events.
Meanwhile, Swiss five-threat Carlo Janka was in the pole position heading into the second run, after clocking in at 1:17.27. Janka, the defending giant slalom world champion, is heavily favored to take gold in the event.
Meanhwile, Romed Baumann of the beleagured Austrian ski team boosted up the country's spirits, coming in just .02 seconds behind Janka while teammates Marcel Hirscher and Benjamin Raich, were still in it to win it, behind by .21 and .39 seconds respectively.
However, it was the massive Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal, who powered his way into a gold in the 2007 Are championships, who sat at third.
