According to Wikipedia.org: The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a mid-sized wide body, twin engined passenger airliner currently under development by Boeing's Commercial Airplanes unit and scheduled to enter service in May 2008. It will carry between 210 and 330 passengers depending on the seating configuration, and will be more fuel-efficient than comparable earlier airliners. It will also be the first major airliner to use composite material for most of its construction.

In June 2009 Boeing announced it had to reinforce the aircraft structure at the side-of-body section by installing new fittings at 34 stringer locations with the joint where the wing is attached to the fuselage. The test involved subjecting the wing and trailing edges of the airframe to maximum limit loads - the highest loads expected to be seen in service. The load is about the same as 2.5 times the force of gravity for the wing. Read Full Story

Boeing announced an updated schedule for its all-new 787 Dreamliner program that moves the commercial jet’s first flight into the second quarter of 2009 and first delivery into the first quarter of 2010.
