Players

Players, directed by Abbas Mustan which stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu,Sonam Kapoor, Sikander Kher, Omi Vaidhya, Neil Nitin Mukesh as part of its cast.

The film though is a official remake of the Hollywood film The Italian Job, ist is not a scene by scene copy and has adapted the plot of the heist to suit the Indian audience by adding ample amount of people in stylish clothes, exotic locales, comedy, song and other masala elements that may drag a one and half hour slick action-thriller movie in to a masala filled action entertainer Indian film, which runs for 2 and half hours.

Players with the team of skilled and intellect in their own right group of people has Charlie Masacaren  (played by Abhishek Bachchan) the head intelligent guy, Ronnie (played by Bobby Deol) an illusionist, Spider (played by Neil Nitin Mukesh) the geek, Riya (played by Bipasha Basu) an auto mobile expert, Bilal (played by Sikander Kher) a linguist and Sunny (by Omi Vaidya), a prosthetics expert, is joined by Naina (played by Sonam) to help them in the heist.

One among the team tries to double cross the others, by taking the heist that they plan, which alone is kind of a surprise element in the film.

Story:
The team of best players in the world (incidentally all Indians ;) ) the biggest game planner and voice modulator Ronnie Mascarrenhus (Abhishek Bachchan), charmer and an automobile expert Ria (Bipasha Basu), bomb expert Bilal (Sikander Kher), Magician (Bobby Deol), Face and makeup expert Sunny Mehra (Omi Vaidya) and world’s best hacker Spider (Neil Nitin Mukesh) come together for the biggest robbery of the century, looting Romanian Gold from Russion police who are transporting it back to Romania. One man is the captain of the ship, Victor Dada (Vinod Khanna) who guides them through and he has a daughter Naina Barganza (Sonam Kapoor) who strictly wants her father to lead an honest life. The robbery still happens but one of them turns out to be traitor. To find out what happens next, watch the film.

Analysis:
There were much expectations from the film that falls flat with the director duo taking too many cinematic liberties. The train robbery makes up to be an intriguing and thrilling sequence but that’s about it. Nothing else, not even the climax of the film impresses. The comic sequences that included Johny Lever’s foreign wife and kids commuting in shhuddh hindi and talking about satya Narayan katha; Omi’s clichéd comic dialogues fail to create much humour. The film gets quite predictable while reaching towards the climax. What’s stupid is that after a huge government robbery there is no intervention depicted by the Russian intelligence or any police. The players are doing whatever they want without any trace of the cops.

Performances:
Abhishek Bachchan is monotonous just like he is in other films. The directors could have presented him in a better manner. Bipasha Basu is decent enough and looks good. Sonam Kapoor can’t act but looks exceptionally stunning. Bobby Deol is completely wasted. Sikander Kher and Omi Vaidya are strictly okay. Neil Nitin Mukesh and Vinod Khanna steal the show with a good performance. Johny Lever is not funny anymore.

Technicalities:
Abbas Mustan has given Bollywood some surprising hits like ‘Humraaz’, ‘Ajnabee’ and ‘Race’, but ‘’ is a sheer disappointment by the duo. They characterization too is not up to the mark. The music is average and the dialogues do not leave an impact. The locations however are visually appealing and picturization is good.
