Booker T Washington National Monument

The Booker T. Washington Community Center is reopened. Kids are again able to play dodge ball in the Booker T. Washington center this Monday.  

The Booker T. Washington Center in Macon has served the community for almost 70 years. But due to a lack of funding, the sounds of children laughing and learning have been absent from the grounds. And the classrooms at the Booker T. Washington Center have been empty for the past month.  

The Booker T. Washington Community Center will open its doors on Monday, after receiving emergency funds from the city.

Port Arthur fire investigators say a fire that heavily damaged Booker T. Washington Elementary and the Memorial 9th Grade Campus was intentionally set.  

A fire that severely damaged Memorial Ninth Grade Campus/Booker T. Washington Elementary School on Sunday has been deemed arson, according to the Port Arthur Fire Marshal’s Office.  

Firefighters are currently being dispatched to an attic fire at Memorial Ninth Grade Campus/Booker T. Washington Elementary School.
