…that today is the birthday of Dairy Queen? In 1940, J.F. McCullough and his son Alex opened the first Dairy Queen in Joliet, Illinois. As of 2010, Dairy Queen has more than 5,700 stores in 19 countries, including 652 locations outside the United States and Canada. Enjoy a Blizzard Treat today, Boomers!

Growing up we did not have a Dairy Queen on the Air Force Base, in fact there was not one in our small city. However, where my grandparents lived in Roswell, New Mexico, there was one at the northwest corner of Washington St. and Second St. It was always a big treat to get a Dairy Queen.

I always wondered…how did they get the ice cream so creamy!

Trivia: The renowned billionaire investor, Warren Buffett, shelled out $585 million in 1997 for the entire Dairy Queen chain.
