A community portal about Boxing with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Boxing, also called pugilism, prizefighting or the sweet science, is a sport and martial art in which two participants of similar weight fight each other with their fists in a series of one to three-minute intervals called "rounds". In both Olympic and professional divisions, the combatants avoid their opponent's punches while trying to land punches of their own. Points are awarded for clean, solid blows to the legal area on the front of the opponent's body above the waistline, with hits to the head and torso being especially valuable. The fighter with the most points after the scheduled number of rounds is declared the winner. Victory may also be achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue. For record-keeping purposes, a TKO is usually counted as a knockout when calculating the total knockouts.

Irony reigns if Pacquiao-Malignaggi is made

It is the most bizarre of sagas, a spasmodically woven tale of speculation, innuendo, litigation and public feuding, and boxing awaits its outcome with feverish anticipation. The political, legal and tactical wrangling that has overshadowed what is supposed to be 2010’s greatest battle, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao, has often been so outlandish that it could not have been scripted. Yet the emergence of Paulie Malignaggi as Pacquiao’s proposed next opponent, as the Filipino’s... Read Full Story

Mayweather, Jr. vs. Pacquiao will happen; “The Secret” is out

This is all so silly. The two sides (Floyd Mayweather, Jr. / Golden Boy vs. Manny Pacquiao / Top Rank) have to wake up pretty early each morning to determine who is mad at whom and why each day. What I’m picking up on is these daily turf wars; everything from the “100,000 vs.16,200″ to “blood vs. urine” is setting back our once quaint boxing civilization. Somebody with some clout must have a serious secret that he’s fighting to keep in his vault. And I mean it’s such a deep dark secret... Read Full Story

BoxingScene’s 2009 Fighter Of The Year: Manny Pacquiao

If there’s a single item that can help put into perspective how terrific of a year it’s been for boxing, it’s the honoring of 2009’s Fighter of the Year. In most other years, fighters such as Vitali Klitschko, Tim Bradley and Andre Ward warrant consideration for top honors for the campaigns each have led in the past 12 months. But 2009 was not like most other years. It was a year in which terrific fights were made and the history books were rewritten. The latter has everything to do... Read Full Story
