A community portal about Boxing with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Boxing, also called pugilism, prizefighting or the sweet science, is a sport and martial art in which two participants of similar weight fight each other with their fists in a series of one to three-minute intervals called "rounds". In both Olympic and professional divisions, the combatants avoid their opponent's punches while trying to land punches of their own. Points are awarded for clean, solid blows to the legal area on the front of the opponent's body above the waistline, with hits to the head and torso being especially valuable. The fighter with the most points after the scheduled number of rounds is declared the winner. Victory may also be achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue. For record-keeping purposes, a TKO is usually counted as a knockout when calculating the total knockouts.

Britain's David Haye will not have his World Boxing Association heavyweight crown diminished by the sanctioning of an interim title fight, Haye promoter Oscar de la Hoya said. In response to rival promoter Don King's claim that the WBA had agreed to an interim title bout, de la Hoya said in a statement released early on Tuesday that he had been assured no such bout will be recognized by the sanctioning group. "We have complete confidence that the WBA will keep their word and not sanction an interim heavyweight world title bout," De la Hoya said. "They have assured us that David will remain ... Librado Andrade, whose last-round flurry last year nearly took Lucian Bute's super middleweight title, enters Saturday's rematch confident he will claim the International Boxing Federation crown. Unbeaten Romanian-born southpaw Bute, 24-0 with 19 knockouts, is a Canadian hero who has lured a sellout crowd of 16,000 to Le Colisee just 13 months after a unanimous decision over Mexican Andrade, 28-2 with one draw and 21 knockouts. Bute dominated Andrade in Montreal until the final 90 seconds when the challenger unleashed a desperate comeback that nearly dethroned the champion. Bute hung on to the final bell. Andrade could only wish for a few more seconds. ... Read Full Story

A fist fight may seem an odd way to show respect between Jews and Muslims, but when Dmitriy Salita competes for the WBA light-welterweight title next month, he'll be doing just that. Salita, an Orthodox Jew from Brooklyn, New York, meets British Muslim title holder Amir Khan on December 5 in Newcastle, England. It will be a rare -- reportedly the first -- world title bout between practicing members of the two faiths. But at his training camp in Bushkill, in the Pennsylvania hills outside New York, 27-year-old Salita stressed the fight is about vying to be champion, not religion. "We're coming to compete," ... Now that negotiations for a Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight have begun in earnest, it's only natural to briefly stop wondering about whether or not it will get done and start considering where it will take place. The reflex action is to say it will be held in one of the Las Vegas casinos, and it's true that Sin City is still the fight capital of the world. But this is no ordinary boxing match, and the usual rules simply don't apply. It's...

By Thomas Hauser: Thanksgiving and Christmas came early for boxing this year. The November 14th mega-match between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto was the biggest and most important fight of 2009. Think of it as a holiday festival with Pacquiao in the role of Santa Claus. Or maybe Manny is better characterized as a non-stop Energizer Easter Bunny, whose fists exploded like Fourth of July fireworks and turned Cotto’s face into a gruesome...
