Phillies closer Brad Lidge has ties to L.A. Council

The Los Angeles Dodgers just completed a four-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium to earn a share of first place in the National League West Division with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers ability to keep the Phillies talented closing pitcher, Brad Lidge, from appearing in the series was a key in the sweep. Lidge, grandson of Council Vincentian's Gene and Colette Detmer of the Holy Family Conference in South Pasadena, has been perfect this year, saving all 28 games he has been called upon. Lidge, who appeared in the 2008 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium, came to the Phillies during the off-season as a free agent, following several successful years as the closer for the Houston Astros. Along with his 28 saves this year, Lidge is 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA, and has struck out 63 hitters in 49.1 innings of work. Despite being swept by the Dodgers, Philadelphia is just one game behind the New York Mets for the top spot in the National League East Division. As the Phillies travel to San Diego to play the Padres this weekend, the L.A. Council wishes Gene and Colette's grandson nothing but success!
