The Buffalo Bills plan to use former New York Jets utility man Brad Smith at
quarterback.
“Brad is a very good athlete and was a very good quarterback coming out of college,” Bills head coach Cha Gailey said. “He has proven he can make plays on the football field in a lot of different ways. We love his versatility and what he is going to bring to our football team.”
Gailey likes using a lot of shotgun formations, and the signings of Tyler Thigpen and Brad Smith could mean that his shotgun schemes are returning in 2011.
“I see him being used in a
similar role as I used Kordell (Stewart) in Pittsburgh. He can play some receiver and quarterback. He gives you a lot of versatility. He can play special teams, cover kicks and return kicks. He can do a lot to help a football team win games.”
Obviously Smith probably won't be a full time quarterback, seeing snaps at wide receiver from time to time. Smith threw only three passes last season, and only two passes in 2009 and 2008.
