Brandon Routh (born October 9, 1979) is an American actor and former fashion model. He grew up in Iowa before moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, and subsequently appeared on several television series throughout the early 2000s. In 2005, he was cast in the lead role in the 2006 film Superman Returns.

Brandon Routh, the third of four children,was born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 9, 1979. HE is the son of Katie who is a teacher and of Ron Routh who is a carpenter. Both of his parents play music in their spare time and in fact his sister Sara Routh is a singer. Brandon grew up in a Methodit family. He has German, French, English, and Native American ancestry. He basically grew up in Norwalk, Iowa, which is located approximately 100 miles south of Woolstock, the hometown of George Reeves, the second actor to play Superman. Ne thought that being a full-time actor would only be in hi dream because of his small-town background. Brandon usually plays trumpet and piano during his spare time. He said that he was fond of the Superman films and comic books when he was a kid and portraying the said rule was really blissful. Brandon ROuth went to University of Iowa and took up a course in writing because he alway wanted to become a writer when he was a kid. Since
he belong to a poor family he went to modelling and acting in order to earn money for his tuition fees. Eversince he was young, a lot of people tend to say that he has a resemblance to Christtopher Reeves. This is actually the reason why his manager signed him up. His manager predicted that he will be cast as the lead role for Superman once the production staff behind Superman success finally produce another flick. True to what his manager predicted he became the newest Superman.

Brandon's fame was not as easy to get as it seems to other people. He left schooling to pursue his acting career in New York. He then first appeared as an extra in Christina Aguilera's music video entitled What a Girl Wants. His first major role was in a TV series entitled Odd Man Out in 1999. After that he had a four episode role in MTV's very own Undressed. He also appeared in Gilmore Girls. He then earned a steady role in the soap opera One Life to Live. His later primetime casting was a guest role for Cold Case, Will & Grace and a short-lived series Oliver Beene. During this time, he worked as a bartender at a popular bowling alley in Hollywood, Lucky Strike Lanes, and shared an apartment with his sister. Before Brandon was casted in Superman, the production staff has actually spent over a decade to plan the relaunching of the said movie. They thought of having Nicolas Cage who at one point signed on to the role. They also thought of Josh Hartnett, Brendan Fraser, Paul Walker, James Marsden, Ashton Kutcher and they are thinking of getting Tim Burton, Kevin Smith, Wolfgang Petersen, McG, Brett Ratner and Shekhar Kapur as the director of the film. Brandon then auditioned for director McG and then was spotted by Bryan Singer after the latter reviewed his auditioned tape. He then thought that Brandon was the embodiment of his collective memory of Superman and he was also impressed b y the resemblance of Brandon to the comic book icon and found the actor's humble Mid-western roots perfect for the role, as well as his "combination of vulnerability and confidence" that Singer said reminded him of Christopher Reeve. Bryan Singer decided to cast Routh after the two met on August 13, 2004, but did not tell Routh until two months later, when Routh's casting was announced in October 2004, making him an instant celebrity. Before filming began, Brandon bulked-up for the role, gaining 22 pounds to reach approximately 215 pounds. Filming for Superman Returns began in Sydney in February 2005. The film was released in the U.S. on June 28, 2006 and was a box-office success grossing $200 million in the US. Brandon has already signed on to appear in two potential sequels to the film. Brandon tole the entertainment press that he was really afraid o being commented as Christopher Reeves copy cat, he also said that he hopes to remind people of Christopher while at the same time making them feel like they're seeing a totally new Superman. At the 2006 Spike TV Awards, Brandon Routh won the award of Best Superhero as Superman in Superman Returns, beating out among others, Christian Bale as Batman and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. After Superman's huge success he was signed as a CIA agent in Without Remorse. He was actually the thrid actor to portray the role after Willem Dafoe and Liev Schreiber. He then was recently wrapped filming in the ensemble film Life is Hot in Cracktown and just began work on the independent drama Lie To Me co-starring his fiancee Courtney Ford. Filming will commence on the upcoming Superman sequel (rumored title: The Man of Steel) in March 2008 again under the direction of Bryan Singer. The film is scheduled for release Summer 2009.

Just last August 23, 2006, Brandon got engaged to his girlfriend of 2 1/2 years which is also an actress named Courtney Ford. The couple maried on November 24, 2007. Routh's sister, Sara, has a musical track entitled "You're Never Gone" on Sound of Superman, the companion soundtrack of the film. Routh is a fan and player of the video game World of Warcraft.
