Pixar has done it again, this time producing the Best Selling Animated Movie of all time the
absolute legend - WALL-E. Released in June 28, 2007, this computer animated science fiction film grossed $63 million in its first weekend, ranking number one at the box office, crossed the $200 million mark in its sixth week with a total gross of more than $204 million. In total, the film grossed $223,808,164 in the US alone, with a worldwide overall of $534,745,866.
A brainchild of Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton, WALL - E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) was conceived during lunch with fellow writers John Lasseter, Pete Docter and Joe Ranft in 1994, nearing the completion of Toy Story. This is probably the reason why unknown to most, WALL-E makes his first appearances on Monsters, Inc., Cars and even in The Incredibles. Pixar films have up to 75,000 story boards, WALL-E however, required 125,000 making it the most complex Pixar production ever.
After Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture in the Academy Awards, the Best Animated Feature was created. If this did not happen, WALL-E would have not been categorized and would have deserved a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Picture. WALL-E is the first animated feature to win the prestigious Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award. It won Best Animated Feature Film at the 66th Golden Globe Awards, 81st Academy Awards and the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards 2008. It was also awarded Best Animated Feature at the 62nd British Academy Film Awards, and was also nominated there for Best Music and Sound. It became the first animated film to win Best Editing for a Comedy or Musical from the American Cinema Editors.
Behind all the box-office success and worldwide acclaim, WALL-E remains to embody the purest romance of the 21st century cinema. It makes full use of Pixar's powerful technology and its artists' limitless talent to incorporate in a movie, heart, soul, spirit and romance. At the same time, the movie sends out a message to increase environmental awareness despite the scarcity of dialogue from the main characters of the film, the
absolute legend WALL-E and EVE.
