Blog confession: I know Panic! At The Disco have been around since 2004, but somehow, someway, I’ve never heard their music before. Shhhh! Don’t tell. What better way to discover a band that people have known and loved for years than to hear their music for the first time when they are performing it live right in front of you?! In my defense, I have seen Young Veins in concert (which is comprised of former Panic members). On February 1, 2011, Panic! At The Disco performed a very sold-out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and I finally got the chance to hear what all the fuss was about. Well deserved fuss, according2g. Their performance was like a non-stop party and Panic’s front man Brendon Urie is animated and super fun to watch. The band went through some personnel changes and went on hiatus but tonight was their return to the live stage and it rocked! Hitting the stage around 9:15 pm, the band played for just over an hour and they performed their hits as well as a few new tracks from their upcoming album “Vices and Virtues” which will be out on March 29, 2011.
Lead singer Brendon Urie thanked the crowd so many times for our support over the years and told us many times how much he’s missed seeing our faces. The crowd returned the love and it nearly brought Brendon Urie to tears. It was definitely a cool concert moment. One of my favorite songs of the night was the ultra catchy “Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off,” and they even performed a cover of “Science Fiction/Double Feature” from the Rocky Horror Picture Show!
Panic! At The Disco
Panic will be announcing a tour shortly to coincide with the release of their new album, and I recommend seeing them when they come to your town. I was lucky enough to attend the exclusive after party following the show where I met lead singer Brendon Urie. As I expected, based on his interaction with the crowd, he was very nice! A photo from that encounter will be coming soon so stay tuned.
