Bret Hart, it’s Time to forget about Montreal!

“I look back on that incident as a bad decision by Vince McMahon and WWE. I think we all can look back and know that there was a better way to do things…There were a lot of elements that worked during that period; a lot of political jealousies and rivalries.  I don’t forgive anybody involved in that – from Gerald Brisco to Michaels to Triple H to Vince.

-         Bret “The Hitman” Hart in an interview with wwe.com (November 8th, 2007)http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/harttenyearslaterpt1

I think Bret Hart is crazy…or a genius!  Ten years ago Today, the most infamous and debated event in wrestling history took place at Survior Series when Vince McMahon prematuraly ended a World Heavyweight Championship match between champion, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, and challenger, “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels. To some people, this event and its aftermath is the most well conceived wrestling storyline in history.  It turned Vince McMahon into one of the most hated characters in wrestling history, it gave WWE a well needed boost in public interest, and it embarrassed a reluctant defactor, Bret Hart.  The notion that the WWE was unable to cash in on a Hart/Michaels rematch does not detur the conspiracy theorists, as they would point to Hart’s unexpected early retirement forced by injury.  The added element of a camera crew filming a doctumentary, “Wrestling with Shadows,” only adds fuel to the fire.

I am not one of those people!

There is something very intriguing when Bret Hart talks about the events in Montreal.  He has raw and real emotion that borders on truth and disgruntled wrestler.  If the Montreal Screwjob was a “work” it seems that The Hitman is the only one going along with it these days.  Bret NEVER misses an opportunity to talk about the match.  Part of me wants him to admit that they fooled us all and part of me just wants Bret to stop. I am starting to feel that Bret Hart has lost all sense of reality.  It is sad to see a man who can not distinguish himself from his character.  What Bret Hart demanded in his last days in the WWE was completely unrealistic, especially with the fact that Hart grewup in the wrestling business.  Bret Hart wanted the Survivor Series match to end with a disqualification and then the following night he would relinquish the belt on Monday Night Raw as he said goodbye to the WWE fans and let them know that he was leaving to go to WCW.  Do you know how insane that is!!!!

Here is a real world example of what The Hitman wanted to do:

I work for The Big Paper Company but I decided to sign a contract with The New Paper Company.  I tell my boss that before I leave and hand over all of my belongings and contacts to the company, I want to call all of my customers and thank them for being such great and loyal customers and that I will no longer be here but if you want to still work with me I will be at The New Paper Company.  No company or boss would allow ANY employee to do that.

In the words of Vince McMahon, “Bret Screwed Bret.” I have one final request to The Hitman; please stop talking about the Montreal Screwjob until you understand that you were wrong.  That is an article I WILL read.
