I was going to post this yesterday afternoon, but with my previous post being about who the Yankees should sign next year to play left, it's only fitting that my next one be about Brett Gardner. I mention in the Crawford/Werth post that "Barring a breakout season by Brett Gardner, the Yankees will likely be in the market for an outfielder next off-season." If Gardner can play everyday, I think that Gardner could surprise a lot of people, and as we find out from Mark Hale , so does Kevin Long...Read Full Story
John M. made this very incisive comment about Brett Gardner on a previous post I think it was decent of everyone who hates Brett not to mention what his head looks like when he takes his helmet off. Has anyone seen that old Outer Limits with David McCallum. Seek it out, you'll see what I mean. I did just that. The tv episode is above. On the left, has anyone checked out how many fingers Brett has? Meanwhile we are in the process of getting no hit by an ex-Met reject!Read Full Story
As Brett Gardner's delegated Yankiverse defender, let me clear this up now. Above is David "Man from UNCLE" McCallum in the aforementioned episode of THE OUTER LIMITS. It does not look like Brett Gardner. Not one bit. Not one iota. It does, however, look like this bizarre alien. (Check out the ears.)Read Full Story
I think the results are pretty much in on this speed burner. He is an automatic double if he ever gets on first. The big problem: making contact at all and, when so doing, muscling the ball beyond the infield dirt. So far, as he approaches 100 at bats, Brett is blasting out singles at the rate of .170. Anyone still believe he is a .290 hitter on the cusp of " breaking out?" The Yankee brasses are currently meeting in Tampa to decide who to give up for Jason Bay or Xavier Nady. Personally, I...Read Full Story

New hot potato caboose that is. Despite their difference in Wins Above Replacement—Jeter’ was 2.3, Gardner’s 5.1 according to FanGraphs, mostly because of his high defensive rating—Jeter was the winner of this WAR, and the discussion has hardly been raised this winter. The Yankees’ best lineup last year seemed to be the one with Jeter leading off and Gardner hitting ninth. And yet, there is a circumstance in which the Yankees might do better...
If Brett Gardner steps it up this season, we could be witnessing quite the dynamic Yankees' lineup.Imagine a .300 hitter at the top of the lineup (or ninth—either way he's a table-setter), with 50+ stolen base potential and the ability to drive the ball into the gaps.Gardner, although never hitting above .277 in his career, could realistically become that player this season for the Yankees.Last season, Gardner really underperformed. He sported...
