The big problem: making contact at all and, when so doing, muscling the ball beyond the infield dirt. So far, as he approaches 100 at bats, Brett is blasting out singles at the rate of .170. Anyone still believe he is a .290 hitter on the cusp of " breaking out?" The Yankee brasses are currently meeting in Tampa to decide who to give up for Jason Bay or Xavier Nady. "Team USA" -- wait; wasn't that a puppet movie by the guys who do South Park? -- beat the REAL American team -- us -- today 6-5. Now, let’s look at Brett Gardner’s stats… Brett Gardner’s stats . He’s batting .287. That’s not the greatest but he walks, a lot. Not only does he walk, but he steals bases like he knows who he is. In his past 10 games he walked 15 times and stole 9 bases. Whoa. His on base percentage is an incredible .412 for the year and has the second highest on base percentage in the international league. Brett Gardner is headed for the Bronx. The fleet-footed OF was called up by the Yanks yesterday. It's possible that with Hmat out and Damon old, they just want to have another OF option. As Gardner is NOT coming up to sit, however it is far more likely that the Yanks are giving him a look to see if he can handle major league pitching before making a deal involving Melky. There may have been talks started, or Cashman is just anticipating the market. Either way, I think the timing of Gardner's call-up is a sign that Melky's days in pinstripes may be numbered.
