Bonsall's brushes with the law date back to 2007, when he assaulted his girlfriend and avoided the police for about a year. He later assaulted a friend in 2009 and tested postiive for marijuana. Last year, he pleaded guilty to felony menacing and third-degree assault.
A judge in Boulder County gave Bonsall a deferred sentence on the felony menacing charge, so if he behaves himself for the next two years the charge won't show up on his record. The judge will decide next week if he can participate in one of the county's rehabilitation programs.
