There are several things that come out of this trade, first of all the Yankees have a very solid rotation. The 5th starter will be a competition between Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Sergio Mitre, Chad Gaudin and Alfredo Aceves. It is assumed that Phil Hughes will get the job and Joba will head back to the bullpen but that isn't set in stone, everything has to be earned in the Yankees world and according to Brian Cashman the GM. Joel Sherman of the NY Post was reporting that Mitre and Gaudin could be trade bait now probably in spring training. The Yankees reiterated once ... Read Full Story

Dear Mr. Cashman, Never abandon a winning strategy. This winter -- in fact, every winter, from now on -- we should sign the best three players available. But this year's market doesn't fit our team as snugly as last year's... With one exception: John Lackey. Sign him. He's a Texas lugnut. He's gotta be sick of LA. He's a gamer. He protects his team in beanball wars. Moreover, he kills us. If the Angels won game six, he might have shut us out in game 7. He is the perfect addition to CC and AJ. We can even use his initials: JD. Sign him, ... Read Full Story

News reports that Yankees' GM Brian Cashman will meet with CC Sabathia spark feelings of trepidation . The Yanks are at a crossroads and our guide to the promised land has a history of getting lost. I'm reading Buster Olney's , "The Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty." The author recounts a negotiation from 1998 when Bernie Williams was a free agent and the notorious Albert Belle was the object of the Bombers' affection. A few choice excerpts: "It was taken as fact in baseball circles that Albert Belle was nuts...Torre and Cashman flew to Arizona to meet with Belle and found him charming...The ... Read Full Story

Dear Mr. Cashman, Sir, Supreme Intellectual Being, Securer of Treasurers and Master of Thy Domain, You're a busy guy, being in the post-season for a change (ha ha.). So let's not waste time. Make a call. Wire some money -- you know, skoot, dough, bread, ginga, barp, challobrago -- and sign this Cuban guy the scouts are hyping: Aroldis Chapman. He's 21. He's a pitcher. He's a free agent. Let's make him ours. Yeah, I know: Cuba... El Duquecitto. Jose Contreras. Jerry Morales. Mark Cuban. Forget them. Think of Kendry Morales, the Angels' Cuban. And think about this: The Angels, Redsocks and Mets want ... Read Full Story

Brian Cashman acknowledged today that outfield depth is “an area of concern” at the moment, saying “there’s some vulnerability there.” At the moment, Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher, Brett Gardner and Rule 5 pick Jamie Hoffmann are the only outfielders on the roster. But as Cashman stressed yesterday, don’t look for him to get involved with any of the big-name free agents, whether you’re talking about Matt Holliday, Jason Bay or even Johnny...
