Could Dawkins Come Back and Retire an Eagle?

By Cartman on  From eaglesgab.com
Philly.com talks about Brian Dawkins possibly coming back to the Eagles and signing a one-day deal to retire as a member of the team. Brian Dawkins said yesterday that he hasn’t yet made a decision on whether he wants to play a 17th NFL season. The 38-year-old, nine-time Pro Bowl safety, who has played the last three seasons in Denver after leaving the Eagles as a free agent in 2009, missed four of the Broncos’ last five games, including both of their playoff games, with a neck injury. He...Read Full Story

Brian Dawkins Still Unsure if He Will Return in 2012

By Cartman on  From broncosgab.com
Broncos safety Brian Dawkins said Thursday the only way he would play one more NFL season is if he returns to the Broncos. Not that Dawkins, 38, is ready to commit to playing one more year or retirement after the safety finished his 16th NFL season with a ninth Pro Bowl nod. “The season is not over yet,” Dawkins said. “Our season is, but this football season is not. So why talk about that? I’m not ready to make that announcement. I’ll pray about it. If the Broncos want me back at that...Read Full Story

Broncos Safety Brian Dawkins Agrees to Restructured Deal

By Cartman on  From nflgridirongab.com
Broncos strong safety Brian Dawkins’ contract was restructured Friday evening according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post. He will be the Broncos’ starting strong safety this year. Dawkins was due a $6 million base salary this year. “When I signed this deal I knew what it was,” Dawkins said. “It was basically a two-year deal. I knew after a couple years there was a balloon (mechanism) and we most likely would have to restructure. That’s no big deal to me.”Read Full Story

Eagles Win, But Lose Westbrook

By iggle36 on  From insidetheiggles.com
The Eagles defense dominated the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday. After a rough game last week, Jim Johnson devised a terrific scheme to stifle the Steelers offense. Johnson dialed up the blitz all game long, and it was extremely effective. The “D” notched 9 sacks, forced two fumbles, intercepted a pass, shut down the Steelers ground game, and rattled Stillers QB Ben Worthlessburger all game long. Little Ben got hit and sacked so many times, that by the 4th quarter he was a deer in...Read Full Story

Britton Colquitt is an exclusive rights free agent, meaning he has two years of experience and must take the veteran's minimum if offered to him by the Broncos. He is not a real free agent.

Hopefully Andy Reid was attacking the Super Bowl buffet and missed the Giants' 21-17 win over the Patriots. If he came up for some air and peaked around the nacho dip he would have seen Chase Blackburn come up with one of the biggest plays in Super Bowl XLVI.

There is a lot of talk about Brian Dawkins retiring from the NFL. The 38 year old safety has been in the league since 1996 and saw his 2011 season end early because of a neck injury. If Dawkins does retire it would be great if he could do it as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFLPA database does not list Broncos SS Brian Dawkins as being under contract for 2012. Dawkins' old contract listed him with a 2012 base salary of $6 million, but he appears to be an unrestricted free agent after the Broncos did some kind of tinkering with the deal, either last offseason or during the year. Dawkins has a career-threatening neck injury and may be forced into retirement anyway. Rotoworld
