"Over? Did you say 'over'?  Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!" Development camp wrapped up last Saturday and the kids have boarded flights to destinations across the world . . . but July Hockey lives on in DC. Tomorrow marks the third annual Dave Fay Memorial Hockey Game  in honor of the long-time Caps beat writer for The Washington Times, who lost his battle with cancer in July of 2007 . A grassroots organization of Washington Capitals hockey fans, Put Cancer On Ice (PCOI) sponsors monthly pick-up hockey games in a ... Read Full Story

If we were to view the Caps as a three-legged barstool that's a little bit wobbly right about now, consensus might be that the weak leg is the team's blueline. A fair number of fans on line in the past week expressed disappointment with the team's failure to upgrade the position at the trade deadline. But could help still arrive? It's possible. From my vantage, Milan Jurcina's best hockey this season came while paired with Karl Alzner. Alzner boasts a +23 rating in the American League today, best among rookies there and fourth-best in the league overall. He could still be recalled from Hershey, ... Read Full Story

For much of this hockey season Caps' defenseman Brian Pothier sat quite near what's known as the "Blogger's Ghetto" in the Verizon Center press box. I never approached him to ask any questions about his health and hockey hopes -- to be blunt, the answers seemed too apparent and pessimistic. Pothier's teammate Alexander Semin ... Read Full Story

The Washington Capitals' Brian Pothier is my wife's favorite player. Oh, she enjoys watching lots of Caps on the ice, and after her Hockey 'n Heels evening she's developed a few crushes (Laich, Jurcina... and perhaps others but I'm afraid to ask). It was on the day of the Capitals' uniform unveiling in June 2007, when she served as OFB photographer for the day, that she decided that she liked Pothier best. Why Pothier? We were grazing on the food and drink in the player/media area before the event when I pointed out Pothier sitting a few feet away. He was with his wife ... Read Full Story
