Brion Carnes Commits to Nebraska

Brion Carnes surprised many Wednesday when he announced that he planned to play college football for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. Carnes, who played for Manatee High School in Bradenton, FL, was previously committed to Western Kentucky.

Carnes' sudden change was an unexpected blow to the school's recruiting program, but it sounds like the high school star was torn between the two colleges. While the new Western Kentucky coach, Willie Taggert, played quarterback for Manatee when he was in high school, Carnes has familial ties to Nebraska.

Carnes is a second cousin to revered Nebraska quarterback Tommie Frazier. Carnes said Wednesday that he chose Nebraska because it gave him the best shot at some lofty goals.

"Just the atmosphere," he told the Lincoln Journal Star. "Just the fact this is Nebraska. My goals and dreams are to push for a BCS national championship, try to contend for a Heisman Trophy. I feel I can do that at Nebraska."
