This season of
America's Next Top Model is bound to be spitfire intense--the accusations of racism have come early this year, y'all. Last season Dominique's confusing assertion that Whitney was racist ("She could be racist to a blue-eyed girl with red hair!") came during at least the fourth or fifth episode. We're off to a running start!
Benny Ninja also made an early season appearance: he and a professional contortionist critiqued the girls' posing skills as they twisted around in long red mesh tubes that hung from the ceiling. Seriously.

Sheena rocked it with her bendable poseable legs, while Nikeysha writhed around like a cat stuck in pantyhose. Sad.

Less than ten minutes into the show, Alaska native Hannah managed to alienate herself from most of the girls of color. To be fair, Hannah is an 18 year-old girl from the middle of nowhere. She was bound to say something ignorant. Hell, she even admitted to being ignorant in the first episode.
The incident to spark the controversy? The contestants were all hanging out in the hot tub getting their crazy on (they were likely plied with generous amounts of alcohol, as is often the case on reality TV) when they decided to play truth or dare. Strange vegan Elina kissed Clark (who happened to be my least favorite after last week's premiere episode) as the girls laughed and catcalled. Cut to Hannah clutching her knees uncomfortably on the sidelines.

Apparently Isis then "danced up on" Hannah---which wasn't apparent from the video footage---causing Hannah to shove her away. Isis quickly apologized. Awkward silence ensued.
Hannah tries to explain the shove to Sheena and Brittany later in one of the bedrooms. In the process of trying to explain how sheltered she is, she says she's "just an ordinary white girl" who doesn't listen to her music too loud. Uh, ok?
Sheena and Brittany take offense and tell Hannah to be careful about how she presents herself, because what she's just told them sounds incredibly racist. Hannah tears up.

Not all the girls in the house are catty, though: Analeigh is a total sweetheart. When Isis had to take her hormone injection, Analeigh helped to distract Isis from the pain by doing her chicken impression and making monkey faces. Cute.

For this week's challenge, the models headed to Tarina Tarantino to show off their ladypose with several of her pieces. Again, Nikeysha's mouth caused problems: before she even began her poses, she apologized ahead of time for any urine that might leak out of her. Not in those words, exactly, but still. Designer Tarantino looked confused.

Elina ended up winning the challenge.
Back at the house, Sheena and Brittany tell Joslyn about Hannah's "white girl" talk. Eventually a bunch of the girls ask to talk to Hannah and tell her they think she's racist. Hannah flips a bit (but kudos to her for not crying!) and later mutters to Analeigh that the whole thing was like "gang rape, like gang violence." Irony!
For the photo shoot this week, Jay planned to shoot the models on a ladder suspended from a hot air balloon.

The wind soon kicked in, so Jay ultimately decided to suspend the ladder from a crane. But the models still swung around. Whee!
Lauren Brie shot what Tyra eventually named one of the "Top 5 Shots in Top Model History." I still don't think I like her, though: you just know she has a limp-wristed handshake. Marjorie, Joslyn, and Elina also stunned. No one outright sucked, although Sheena had Jay guffawing with her miraculous butt clench.
The final callout order was as follows:
Lauren Brie
Elina
Joslyn
Marjorie
McKey
Samantha
Sheena
Hannah
Clarke
Brittany
Analeigh
Isis
Nikeysha is gone. The judges thought she was too skinny, plus she couldn't quit her nervous chatting. She babbled incomprehensibly about becoming an anesthesiologist instead of a model before Isis even accepted her photo. The editors played her goodbye chatter over the exit music as her photo disappeared from the group shot. I love this show with all my heart.
