Brooke Shields

Brooke Shields (born May 31, 1965) is an American actress, author, and model. Born in New York City to a well-connected family, Shields began her modeling career at the age of 11 months. Brooke made her film debut in Louis Malle's "Pretty Baby," in which she played a child prostitute. She is perhaps best known for her role in "The Blue Lagoon."

The 'National Enquirer' Makes Nice With Brooke Shields

Brooke Shields was outraged last month when a National Enquirer staffer checked her mother out of a nursing home in the hopes of landing a juicy tabloid story. At the time, Shields told People,
My mother Teri Shields has been diagnosed with dementia. For her safety, she has temporarily been in a senior living facility, a very difficult decision for me. Late Thursday afternoon, I was alerted by Old Tappan Police that my mother had been signed out of the facility by two reporters of the National Enquirer … who falsely claimed they were friends of hers.

They then drove my 75-year-old mother around looking for a tabloid story. As anyone knows who has a parent who suffers from dementia or Alzheimer's, it is one of the most difficult experiences you can go through as a son or daughter. The idea that the National Enquirer took advantage of her state is reprehensible and disgusting. Yikes. Turns out the tabloid didn't take too well to the bad press, so they've been trying to execute some damage control. Not only did the Enquirer opt not to publish a story on Mrs. Shield's condition, it agreed to issue a public apology and make a generous donation to dementia research as well.
