From Mike Zeiberger of the Toronto Sun : If often-criticized defenceman Bryan McCabe is a potential victim of the imminent Maple Leafs housecleaning as is expected, it likely will not come via the buyout route. That was the word yesterday from Maple Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher, who is aware that McCabe's average salary of $5.75 million US translates to a hefty cap hit (almost $3-million per season for six years) in the event the Leafs attempted to buy him out. The more logical way to go is to trade the veteran defenceman, the belief being that McCabe might waive the no-movement clause in ... Read Full Story

No love for Bryan McCabe in Leafland.... well maybe a little. But the general consensus is that the Leafs need to move on from this guy. Only question is: how? It is going to cost Cliff Fletcher two-thirds of McCabe's contract ( at $6.15 million by the way) to get rid of the overpaid inconsistent d-man. That would be a costly $4.12 million I believe. Fletcher doesn't seem to want to do that, according to today's Toronto Sun. Well Cliff, you may just have to suck it up and pay for the sins of the GM before you. He may have to try move ... In my opinion, finally the Leafs are thinking of getting rid of their over-rated dead weight defenceman Bryan McCabe. According to GM Fletcher McCabe has softened his stance on his no-movement clause in his contract and is thinking of life outside of the Maple Leafs organization. Although Bryan McCabe has an excellent slapshot, thats about all he has. Whenever I watch a leafs game, I constantly see Bryan McCabe pinching in and helping his forewards way to much and whenever the puck goes the other way McCabe always floats to his goalies help and leaves Kaberle stranded all by himself to worry about 3 ... From the Toronto Star : "Bryan is starting to think about possibly getting his career started somewhere else," said Fletcher. "We'll leave him alone. He's going to get back to us in a couple of weeks. There's not going to be any issues. I'm really confidant it's going to be resolved amicably before training camp." It looks as though the constant badgering by Fletcher may pay off. We'll see. It will be a major burden off the Leafs' shoulders if McCabe does move on, in more ways than one. Bryan McCabe remembers his first NHL game with pure clarity.

``It was Boston in Boston,'' the Panthers defenseman said Thursday, recalling his debut on Oct. 7, 1995. ``I remember being across from Ray Bourque and my legs were shaking during the anthem. I was in the starting lineup. It was a dream come true. I think I had 10 penalty minutes for tripping and hooking and stuff.''

For the first time since Olli Jokinen was traded in the summer of 2008, the Florida Panthers have a captain.

A few hours before the team's lone home game of the preseason, coach Pete DeBoer ended the speculation of who would wear the ``C'' by announcing it would be defenseman Bryan McCabe.
