Why is Bryan McCabe still a free agent?

There are still a few good free agents out there for NHL rosters to snap up. The most shocking Player in my mind still remaining on that list is Bryan McCabe. Can someone please enlighten me as to why McCabe is still a free agent? I realize the St. Catherine's, Ontario native is getting up there in years at 36 years of age and his cap-hit was $5.75 million a season. That would rank McCabe around the top-10 amongst defensemen. These are all the things working against Bryan McCabe I assume?

Yet, I still cannot believe Bryan McCabe remains on the free-agent market. McCabe is a veteran of 1,135 NHL contests, over which he has accumulated 528 points. His presence would steady any NHL blueline and I know there are plenty of rosters in need of a stable, offensively-minded defensemen. Bryan McCabe was utilized on my many fantasy rosters throughout last season as he managed a respectable 28 points, (7G 21A) while splitting time between the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers.

In his three years with the Florida Panthers, Bryan McCabe tallied 104 points in 199 games. That's an average of 35 points a season which is pretty darn good for any defensemen, let alone one that played on a team that without question lacked offensive supremacy. If I can see this much promise, why is Bryan McCabe still a free agent? NHL General Managers should take note. If nothing else, Bryan McCabe “still has a big shot and can help a team on the power play”. NHL.com
