I know smoking is bad for you but here in Bulgaria it is considered normal to smoke and unusual not to. The cost of cigarettes has double in the last couple of years and is due to increase by another 43% in the New Year, so Bulgarians being Bulgarians find a practical way of dealing with this. Back on the Pig Flu topic again. Living in Yambol myself this is a worry. 2 million could be infected in Bulgaria over the coming months is some serious virus. The safest people are in the villages, perhaps we should give up our jobs spend this winter in the village full time until it is all over. Actually no, earthquakes are part and parcel of life here, no insurance, just rebuild your buildings when it strikes and that is what I have done recently! Bloody Estate Agents ... Read Full Story

There was no mention here whether this was a Bulgarian or Bulgarian Gypsy child. Getting married at 11 years old must surely indicate that this was a Gypsy girl. Will anything be done as this is a Gypsy issue? I doubt it, underage sex, marriage and other underage issues is part of their alien culture in Bulgaria. An 11-year-old girl gave birth to a healthy baby girl in the southeast Bulgarian city of Sliven Thursday night. The news has been confirmed by the head of the maternity ward in the Sliven Hospital, Dr. Sonya Mihaylova, who also said the youngest mothers the ward had ... Read Full Story

Just to give some background here, the previous owners of Skalitsa farmhouse and smallholding off where an elderly couple called Marina and Mitko. They moved in with their son to the town of Stara Zagora . Marina couldn’t wait for town life, but Mitko didn’t want to move, he loved village life and was in tears when we signed the contract. ...
