A young Maritime girl, who recently endured a violent act of bullying, benefited from an act of kindness on Friday.

Twelve-year-old Madison Palmer is a new student at Hampton Middle School in Quispamsis, New Brunswick but she hasn’t exactly been welcomed to the school with open arms.

Palmer says she was bullied at her school a few days ago.

“I was devastated and I didn’t want to move because I was too scared,” recalls Palmer. “I didn’t know what they were going to do to me.”

Palmer says two girls grabbed her in the school washroom and cut her hair. The RCMP and school officials are now investigating the incident.

Today, the Grade 6 student enjoyed a free makeover courtesy of a concerned business operator who wanted to put a smile back on the girl’s face.

“They cut my hair right over here and the hairdresser blended it in for me so no one would stare or make fun of me,” says Palmer.

“We knew who she was, we just wanted to offer our services to her,” says hair salon manager, Jennifer Morrell. “Being in the image industry, it touched us pretty closely.”

Tomorrow Palmer will be one of more than 300 people who will gather outside of Hampton Middle School for an anti-bullying rally.

A number of people who have been bullied are expected to share their stories. Palmer hopes by sharing hers, it will encourage others who are being bullied to speak out and get help.
