Greetings Classic Film Fans! Live Accompaniment by 96-year-old Bob Mitchell - “Last of the Silent Era Organists”, Spend Valentine’s Day with Buster & Bob, Saturday, February 14, 2009 – 7:30 PM, Saugus Train Station at Heritage Junction, (Inside William S. Hart Park), 24107 Newhall Avenue, Newhall. Suggested Donation: $5 – Free Popcorn! For more information, contact Pat Saletore @ 661.254.1275 – www.scvhs.org.
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is proud to kick-off 2009’s “Flickers at the Junction” film series with a special presentation of Buster Keaton’s 1923 classic comedy “Our Hospitality” on Saturday, February 14, at 7:30 PM. The film will be presented inside the historic Saugus Train Station at Heritage Junction (inside William S. Hart Park) at 24107 Newhall Avenue, Newhall. Our good friend, 96-years-young Bob Mitchell, will again be providing the organ
accompaniment. What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than with Buster, Bob and a classic romantic comedy from film’s early days! On February 28 at 2:00 PM, the SCVHS Lecture Series will partner with “Flickers” to present a program entitled “The Life and Death of James Dean: Tracing His Last Day.” As many of you may know, legendary 24-year-old Hollywood actor James Dean passed through our valley a few hours before dying in a car crash in Central California. He may even have stopped here for his last meal. During this program we will have a panel discussion in the train station featuring two noted writers, Warren Beath, the author of “The Death of James Dean,” as well as pop-historian Chris Epting, who wrote “James Dean Died Here,” and Tony Newhall, former publisher of the “Newhall Signal”, who will speak about Dean’s history, films, and continuing legacy. Moderator for the panel discussion will be Leon Worden, President-CEO of SCVTV. A special presentation of Dean’s 1955 classic “Rebel Without A Cause“ will follow the discussion. (The panel discussion is free, but we are asking for a $5 donation if you choose to stay for the film.)
Also attached is a copy of our 2009 Flickers at the Junction Schedule. This year we are presenting ten shows, including six outdoor presentations during the warmer months (weather permitting). We will also feature four nights of silent films with Bob Mitchell providing the soundtrack. We are unable to provide actual film titles at this time until all the licensing issues are worked out, but look for them in future mailings as the dates draw near. We know that everyone needs a break - never more than now - so we are holding steady to our suggested donation of $5, which includes free popcorn!
2009 promises to be a fun and exciting time for classic films at Heritage Junction. We thank you ahead of time for your continued support and hope to see you all at the “Flickers!”
