Byron Scott Fired From Hornets

By Jake on
It's judgement day for Byron Scott, as the coach has been released from his position as the coach of the New Orleans Hornets. This comes after the Hornets have gotten off to a truly miserable 3-6 start. The news is surprising, considering the progress made by Scott last year. He won NBA Coach of the Year, after taking the Hornets (aided by point guard Chris Paul) all the way to the playoffs, before being defeated by the San Antonio Spurs. His replacement, Jeff Bower, in the general manager...Read Full Story

Byron Scott: Starting Point Guard Spot Still Up For Grabs

By rickg15 on  From waitingfornextyear.com
Tweet With the Cavaliers preseason contests in the rear-mirror, four of the five  starting positions are in ink. The last remaining role: the team’s starting point guard spot with a competition of sorts still ongoing between Ramon Sessions – who started both preseason games – and rookie, first-overall draft selection Kyrie Irving. With four days remaining until the Cavs tip off against the Toronto Raptors, head coach Byron Scott appears ready to make this decision in the 11th hour, stating...Read Full Story

Byron Scott’s Praise for Gibson’s Defense More Than Just Lip Service

By rickg15 on  From waitingfornextyear.com
Among the many new changes we can expect to see with the beginning of a new regime under Byron Scott, one of the most important will be the new roles and expectations for different players. This means more to Daniel Gibson than perhaps anyone else on the team. Lost at the end of Mike Brown’s bench for years for reasons that are still not entirely clear, Gibson has been vocal all summer in expressing his excitement about the new opportunities he has to win over a new head coach. For his part...Read Full Story

Moving Forward: Chris Grant and Byron Scott Discuss the Future of the Cavaliers

By rickg15 on  From waitingfornextyear.com
Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant and head coach Byron Scott took to the podium on Friday afternoon, less than 16 hours after LeBron James announced his intentions to sign with the Miami Heat.  With the future of the franchise in question, the two newest members of the Cavaliers staff did their best to assure fans and media alike that the team will continue on without the two-time MVP. If there was a theme to Friday’s press conference, it was undoubtedly the future.  Grant...Read Full Story

Irving on SI Poll: Byron Scott one of the Best Coaches in the NBA

By rickg15 on  From waitingfornextyear.com
Besides that [running], he’s one of the best coaches in this league. Just based on the fact he listens to you, but also he gives you an opinion that’s in your best interest all the time. He was a player, so he understands how we’re feeling. That’s basically what it’s about. Having a coach to go out there and play, he understands you’re going to make mistakes and he doesn’t take you out right away. He hopes you learn from it. - Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving in response to the SI player...Read Full Story

Hornets Reportedly Sold To Team’s Minority Owner

By Cartman on  From slamdunkcentral.com
The “New Orleans Times-Picayune” has reported that the New Orleans Hornets will hold a press conference as early as Thursday to announce that the team has a new majority owner. The reports state that minority owner Gary Chouest has reached an agreement with the team founder and majority owner George Shinn to purchase the club. Shinn currently owns 75% of the team after selling 25% to Chouest in 2007. The new owner is from the New Orleans area and reportedly has made billions with his family’s...Read Full Story

Rebuilding Assets: Byron Scott

By rickg15 on  From waitingfornextyear.com
Tweet It might seem somewhat unfair to keep talking about rebuilding and future seasons when we still haven’t yet hit the All-Star Break in the current NBA season. After all, there is still knowledge to be had and lessons to be learned from this season, even as the team sets all kinds of records for futility. It’s difficult when many had higher expectations for this team, but for the Cavaliers, the complete rebuilding process is under way now, whether that was the plan or not. So it is in...Read Full Story

Helping Byron Scott Relive the Glory Days

By rickg15 on  From waitingfornextyear.com
Tweet   It is undoubtedly cliché to say that a picture is worth a thousand words.  But in reference to the image above, it is tough to describe it any othe way.  The list is endless: an A-list celebrity, members of an NBA championship team, sunglasses, the socks, and – oh my – the shorts.  Which is why, when I ventured into Cavaliers’ shootaround with this image in hand, Byron Scott could not help but smile and shake his head.  Naturally, Scott had a welcomed flashback to the mid-1980′s when...Read Full Story

Mo Williams Attempting To Carve New Role in Byron Scott’s Offense

By rickg15 on  From waitingfornextyear.com
This has been a crazy season for the Cavaliers, but perhaps no player has been more difficult to figure out than Mo Williams. Mo’s emotional off season has been well documented, and I’m not going to get into it again other than to point out that it sets the backdrop for Mo’s role of intended leader heading into this season. Mo suffered a groin injury early in preseason workouts and thus missed basically all of the preseason and training camp. Never really having a chance to grow into that...Read Full Story

Byron Scott Really Doesn’t Like Today’s NBA Player

By rickg15 on  From waitingfornextyear.com
Tweet There is no denying that Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott is of the “old school” variety.  While he hasn’t confiscated a child’s ball that just so happened to end up in his back yard (that we know of), Scott has hinted many of times that he misses his era of the NBA. Throughout the season, he has frequently lauded coaches like George Karl, Greg Popovich and Jerry Sloan.  He has reminisced about days of old when players wanted to beat their rivals rather than joining them, and he has...Read Full Story
