C.C. Sabathia probably wishes he could take a mulligan on his start for the New York Yankees. Highly touted and highly doubted Yankee pitcher C.C. Sabathia had a rocky start to say the least. The ace pitched 4.1 innings, but allowed six earned runs, starting the season with a dismal looking ERA of 12.46. Even worse, he let loose with two wild pitches, a sign of a player who is suffering from nerves. From a New York Times blog post: C.C. Sabathia worked 1,659 1/3 innings in his career before joining the Yankees. In none of those innings did he throw two wild pitches. ... Read Full Story

Zack Greinke won the American League 2009 Cy Young Award on Tuesday. A 2.16 ERA which was the best in the majors is pretty amazing especially since he plays in the American League. It still doesn’t take away the fact that C.C. Sabathia had a great year for the New York Yankees. He received a contract from the Yankees in the off season that matched his mountainous presence on the mound during the 2009 season. He was the money player the Yankees paid for. He went and earned the ALCS MVP by overpowering the Anaheim Angels during the three games he pitched. His regular ... Read Full Story

From George A. King III : CC Sabathia required two words to describe being a World Series winner rather than copping a second Cy Young award. "Much happier," the Yankees' ace lefty wrote in a text message yesterday after Kansas City's Zach Greinke was named this year's AL Cy Young winner. He also wasn't too surprised by the outcome of the voting: "I wasn't surprised at all," Sabathia said of Greinke winning. "He definitely deserved it. He had a 2.16 ERA in the American League. I don't care how many wins you have, that's pretty good." I wouldn't expect CC to say anything different. ... Read Full Story

The American League Cy Young is about to be announced in roughly 10 minutes. The serious candidates are Zach Greinke from the Royals who came back from some anxiety disorder to have a unbelievable year. Felix Hernandez of the Mariners who I don't think a lot of people realize how good he was because he plays in Seattle and CC Sabathia who won 19 games and of course helped lead the Yankees to the World Championship. The writers are only supposed to be voting on the regular season and I wouldn't expect them to be influenced by the Yankees winning and CC Sabathia being ... Read Full Story

C.C. Sabathia promised his teammates a homer Saturday, and a homer they received. The Cleveland Indians ace wasted little time in fulfilling his oath, launching a 1-0 pitch served up by Los Angeles Dodgers starter Chan Ho Park 440 feet and into the right field corner during his first at bat. This marks Sabathia's second career home run, improving his lifetime batting average to .300 with seven RBIs. Oh, but that's not all. Captain Cheeseburger also fanned ten in his club's 7-2, 11-inning win. Manager Eric Wedge even went as far as to call him "a fantastic athlete." ... The hefty lefty allowed just ... Read Full Story

The New York Yankees bludgeoned the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 10-1 in Game Four of the ALCS Tuesday night at Angel Stadium of Anaheim to move within one victory of their first trip to the World Series since the 2003 season.   Yankees ace lefthander C.C. Sabathia allowed only one run on five hits and two walks over eight stellar innings to help New York take a commanding 3-1 lead over the Angels in the best-of-seven series.   “He was...

Joe Girardi has managed the ALCS erratically from pulling relievers at odd times to leaving starters in too long. But one thing he got right was starting C.C. Sabathia on three-days rest for Game 4, a move that worked out perfectly and put the Yankees in control of this series. And that is why he should turn to a fully rested Sabathia tonight to try and put the Yankees back into the World Series for the first time in six years. The rain...

Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia could have won titles for the Indians. Instead, they will face each other for the Phillies and Yankees. Both have come a long way -- and there will be long faces in Cleveland during Game 1, Scott Miller says.
