Morgan Stanley buys Fairfax Media stake: report

SYDNEY (MarketWatch) — Morgan Stanley bought a 9% stake in Australia’s Fairfax Media Ltd. , representing 35 million shares at 81 Australian cents (86 U.S. cents) each, The Australian newspaper reported Tuesday without citing sources. Mining heiress Gina Rinehart was linked by market speculation to the share purchase, according to the report. There was no suggestion of a full takeover, the report said. Shares of Fairfax ended flat at 74 Australian cents in Sydney trading Tuesday.
