Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

I know many of you have been desperately waiting for the COD4 review, so here it is! I never really liked the previous COD’s, and I know a lot of people loved them. The reason for my disliking was because it was about war from long ago and it uses very old and boring guns. I am more of a technological person and I like shiny, powerful and slicker guns with lasers. Although I disliked the COD series, I would much rather play the games than learn about it in history class.

My friends have been begging me to try the new Call of Duty and I have been putting it off for a while, due to Assassin’s Creed. Finally, my friend told me that the new COD takes place in the present time, with current guns (hence “Modern” Warfare). I never really noticed that Modern really meant Modern time. Therefore, I gave it a try and I was hooked! There is a large variety of guns and I’ve heard that later on in the game you can even upgrade weapons, or your character!

You start off as a recruit named “Soap,” and in the beginning, they have a tutorial which shows you how to shoot and aim. The tutorial is not all that bad and what’s really great is that they put you on a difficulty depending on how you do in the training course. Although they choose it for you, you have a choice to pick another difficulty. Another feature I love is that you can shoot through walls and other objects, which may or may not have been in the previous series of COD.

Your first mission takes place on a ship and your mission is to find a nuclear device. The first thing I noticed were the graphics, they are amazingly gorgeous! Everything looks really smooth and the effect on battle is even more amazing. While on the mission, I couldn’t help but notice that it is very similar to Rainbow Six, the Breach and Clear sort of deal and it shares some similarity to the movie “Black Hawk Down.”

This is the only Call of Duty game I liked and its not just because of the slick guns, but because of the great game play and strategical options. If your allies die, they die, they don’t come back. That is what makes this game amazingly fun! The features of the game, such as upgradeable weapons and skills also makes this a spectacular game. Also, don’t think that the AI’s are dumb, they make better decisions than you and they don’t run into the line of fire. Without a doubt, this would be one of my favorite games of the year, even topping Assassin’s Creed! On a side note, if you have motion sickness, I recommend you to take a break after every 3rd mission because it will cause you a lot of pain! Now go get some Headshots!
