Yes, I know this is supposed to be McDuff's Food & Wine Trail, not McDuff's Bike Trail, but what can I say. I'm a nut for the Tour de France and this year's edition has been one of the most exciting, least predictable Tours in recent history. Only three days from the finish in Paris, and with the decisive final time trial looming on Saturday, it's still an open race. Wednesday's stage up L'Alpe d'Huez was riveting. Here's the top ten standings as of this morning: General classification after stage 18 1. Carlos Sastre Candil (Spa) Team CSC - Saxo Bank, 79.16.14 2. Frank ... Read Full Story

Last post till September 20th. Away on a long over do vacation. Will miss six stages. David Moncoutie of Team Cofidis proved he is worthy of the "King of the Mountain" title by breaking away from the leaders and winning by nearly one minute of over second place Ezequiel Mosquera. A strong finish to earn the :08 second 3rd place bonus helped Alejandro Valverde gain some time on Robert Gesink as Cadel Evans of Team Silence-Lotto suffered a punctured tire 14 km from the finish causing him to lose over one minute on race leader Valverde. Stage 13 results: 1 David Moncoutié (FRA) Cofidis ... Read Full Story

Well, Cadel's knee injury (that he sustained at a post-tour sympathy party) have caused the Aussie to opt out of the Olympic Men's Time Trial . Yes, honest to goodness, he fell down at a party. As my fellow blogger, Helen says : "We all know he was drowning his TdF sorrows and can't handle his beer." Anyway, here are my picks for the Olympic TT on Thursday. Gold= Levi Leipheimer USA- He is kind of a punk, but I think he is ready and able. After all, he had to cool his jets during the Tour.Silver = Kim Kirchen LuxBronze= Christian VandeVelde USA- ... Cadel Evans I've just spent a lazy Bastille Day afternoon on the couch watching La Grande Boucle on French television (which sucks, just quietly). Our Aussie boy Cadel Evans is now in the race leader's yellow jersey after finishing eighth in the 10th stage 156km ride of le Tour de France from Pau to Hautacam in the Pyrenees today. The stage winds upward for 11 miles at a gradient of 7.5 percent. Then descends for 22.3 miles before finishing with another hard climb for 8.9 miles up Hautacam. Italian Leonardo Piepoli of the Saunier Duval team won the stage with his teammate Juan Jose ... Read Full Story

Title: Cadel Evans - Close to Flying Author: Rob Arnold, Cadel Evans Publisher: Hardie Grant Pages: 304 Strengths: very well written (for a sports bio); interesting sections from Chiara, mum, old coaches and other riders (Damian Grundy, Hendrik Redant, Dario Cioni, Matt Lloyd, Charlie Wegelius...), gives a thorough picture of Cadel's early life, formative years as a cyclist and his family.  Not too cycling-geek heavy for non-cycling readers...
