CAIRO — The Internet service has been down in Cairo since midnight Friday as protestors are reportedly planning massive gatherings after prayers.

The nationwide protest, which began on Tuesday, has left eight people dead and hundreds injured, according to counts of Egyptian media.

BANGKOK — Four soldiers and a Buddhist monk were injured when a bomb exploded in a southern province of Pattani on Friday morning, police said.

Col. Manas Sihsamas, chief of Muang district police station, said the monk and two soldiers received minor wounds, but other two soldiers were in critical condition with severe leg injuries. They were admitted to Pattani hospital.

SEOUL — Russia’s chief nuclear negotiator to long-stalled nuclear disarmament talks are set to meet with his South Korean counterpart Friday in Seoul.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin is scheduled to meet with Wi Sung-lac, Seoul’s top nuclear envoy, to discuss nuclear issues of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) reportedly including its claimed uranium enrichment program.

JOHANNESBURG — After days of speculation about the health of South Africa’s iconic former President Nelson Mandela, the country’s Vice President Kgalema Motlanthe will address the media on the subject at midday on Friday.

According to a statement from the South African Presidency, Motlanthe will be accompanied by the surgeon-general of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
